This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher who loves to make sure my kids are always prepared for their day. My students love to learn and always try their best to stay focused during the day. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households whom are very hard working and spend their time assisting their students when not at work. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and strive to give them the best of me.

My Project

A document camera would be extremely beneficial when modeling a lesson and reviewing with my students. I am requesting a document camera in order to keep my students and I connected while I am teaching from home during the COVID19 pandemic. The document camera will be used to record videos and share read alouds with my students to continue their education at home.

Most importantly, the document camera will help me deliver real-time instruction to my students so they can feel as if they were in the classroom.

A read-aloud is a great way for students to become inspired and motivated to read. A read-aloud promotes student engagement, enhances vocabulary, builds fluency, and reinforces many reading skills. Your donation to this project will help to provide new books that will be able to be read aloud to my students. With the document camera, I will be able to video myself reading each one and share the video with my students so they can have some familiarity during this time.

I am also requesting a book for each student. Many of our students are in need of personal books. We usually send books home each day while in school and are in need of books to send to each student now that we are working from home.
