This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a New York City Department of Education teacher in the Bronx, I have witnessed my students of all ages, year after year, facing several obstacles that occur both in and out of the school environment. Even though they are faced with many obstacles at such an early age, my students try their best to overcome their hardships with positive mindsets. They arrive at school every morning with motivation and eagerness. They then leave with a strong sense of gratitude because of the education and opportunity that they have received.
I work in a large, Title I school with a very high population of either low income-high poverty residents or English language learners.
In the majority of cases, it is both. It is my goal to uplift my students in several aspects, which includes their mental, emotional, social and academic state.
My Project
The iMac is a reliable and consistent computer that will ensure my students can view the material I am presenting while we are learning together remotely using Google Meets. I will use the MAC computer to stream videos to enhance student's learning experience! For example, my kiddos this year love this feature called "Time to Climb" on Near pod. Third graders are expected to know their multiplication facts by memory by the end of the year. In this activity, students compete with one another in a game based activity to solve as many multiplication sentence correctly to be declared as a winner. However, my current computer lags and interrupts their session. A new MAC computer will help increase the quality of streaming. As the blended remote teacher, I am live with my students from 9:15am until 12:00pm for our morning session. Then, we meet again from 1:00pm until about 2:00 pm. This will in turn allow my students more access to the curriculum in a clear and functioning manner. In addition to meeting with students live, the MAC computer will allow me to guide students learning by providing them feedback on their work. This will help them understand their next steps so they achieve their goals.
Having this computer for remote learning will motivate all of my students to engage and participate in our synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
