it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten at an elementary school in San Diego, CA. We are a Title I school with low income students, primarily with a Latino population. I have 24 students with 12 boys and 12 girls. Some students have had preschool and some have not. Many students come into kindergarten not knowing any letters. My job is to get them to recognize and write 26 uppercase and lowercase letters. In addition, they need to learn the sounds for each letter. After that, we begin the task of blending the letters to read and write words. Besides this, each student is expected to recognize and work with numbers up to 30. We are very busy indeed!
My Project
ESGI is a software tool that allows me to assess my students, one on one, quickly and efficiently. In kindergarten, this is essential! I can virtually assess their understanding of letters, sounds, sight words, CVC words, number recognition, shapes and so much more by sharing the screen via Zoom. But the beauty of this tool is there is no paper required because the software keeps track of everything for me. As I assess again as the year progresses, I get a very clear picture of where students are with their learning and where I need to target further instruction by looking at data supplied by the software in reports that are generated. I can populate reports for parents to see progress at conferences and even send home flash cards on skills that still need practice. In addition, starting this school year virtually, the swivel computer stand and the gooseneck iPad/iPhone holder will help me manage all of my technology needs.
