My Project
My students attend a public Pre-K through 8th grade Montessori school in Cleveland, Ohio. Our school is comprised of students from all over our city, which has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation. Our Montessori students follow a child-centered approach to develop each child physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Students learn in multi-age classrooms and remain with the same teacher for several years. My classroom is a STEAM Lab, where each student spends at least 8 weeks using technology and other building materials to create.
Training new team members now would give us a head-start for next year's competition.
Our school has the only elementary robotics team in our large, urban district. The LEGO Robotics program is an amazing experience for our students. They not only learn to code, they learn teamwork, research skill, and how to navigate high-stress situations. Five of our team members are moving on to high school next year and would like to begin training their replacements with the new SPIKE Prime robotics kits. Carnegie Mellon University offers a virtual course. Virtual access would allow us to train all summer and recruit on a larger scale.
