My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. They are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to our country. I have a large population of recent Yemeni immigrants. They come to school every single day excited to learn. Their excitement pushes me to do my best every day.
Many of my recent Yemeni immigrants have experienced years of interrupted schooling, destruction of their homes, and family members that have been lost due to the conflict in their home country.
Many of my students are also struggling in low income households, but despite all of their trauma, these kids are resilient and inspire me in new ways every day!
My Project
Technology is huge these days, so I think it is really important to also incorporate technology in the gym. So many students are sedentary, play too many video games, text, use social media and don't participate in the recommended amount of physical activity.
Virtual reality headsets will be able to provide students the opportunity to participate in physical activity through different types of unique games in a virtual world.
Whether it's virtual boxing, bowling, hiking, golf, etc., the students will be able to have different, fun and exciting experiences in the gym. I believe the virtual reality headsets will benefit the students by motivating them to participate in more physical activity!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
