Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 5th graders in an urban school. They represent diverse nationalities, home languages, family structures, interests, and learning styles.
My students are determined to overcome any obstacles they face in life.
The school neighborhood is in an area of high poverty, and more than 80% of the students in the community entered school with a primary language background other than English. However, my students will not let their circumstances label them as disadvantaged learners. They continue to make the best of the opportunities they are presented. As a result, they will finish their elementary school career with determination and resilience!
My Project
The Oculus Go Virtual Reality Headsets and MERGE Cubes will help me give my students learning experiences that would otherwise be impossible. While my students have benefitted and learned from modern day experiences in our valley, there are many other potential learning experiences from which they are restricted due to our geographic location, safety concerns, or a lack of financial resources. With the Oculus Go Virtual Reality Headsets, my students would be able to visit ancient civilizations, explore the solar system, and closely examine habitats and landforms beyond our neighborhood. With MERGE Cubes, my students would be able to hold museum artifacts in their hands while studying them.
My students deserve an education that is equitable.
When STEM-based instruction promotes students' curiosity about the world around them, students develop intrinsic motivation for learning. Access to advanced technology, such as Oculus Go Virtual Reality Headsets and MERGE Cubes, will drive my students' academic achievement through engagement in augmented and virtual realities.
