My elementary school serves first through third graders. A huge passion of mine has always been around classroom culture and climate.
I train and expect my students to be independent, hard-working, and cooperative learners focused on setting and reaching their own individual goals.
I offer a variety of seating options including adjustable stools, exercise balls, wobble stools, tall stools, traditional chairs and cushioned benches to sit on every day.
I opt to not use overhead fluorescent lighting. Instead, I have provided over thirty lamps throughout the classroom to foster a more relaxing environment for learning.
We listen to instrumental music during our independent work times in the background.
My students know they are safe, loved, and valued. We are family.
We are currently virtual together- due to schools being closed in Washington State.
My Project
So far, the 2020-2021 school year has been entirely virtual. Students are learning at home through the use of Chromebooks, Google Classroom, and printed and picked up materials from school.
Nothing about being virtual is easy from the standpoint of a teacher.
We are creating online materials on a daily basis. We cannot be with our students in person, so we are doing whatever we can think of to connect with them, see their work, and provide the highest quality of instruction that is expected and demanded.
Time is of the essence right now. Anything that can be provided through another source, that is already created and ready to provide to students is a gift.
My request for three $100 gift cards to the website Teachers Pay Teachers will provide me with the gift of time. I will be able to access the materials I need, that my students need, without having to make them myself.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
