Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build, and to read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100 percent in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
These backpacks are full of supplies for students to work in Zoom meetings. They have hands on counters, journals and many more items to help students put an academic focus on their play time. We have struggled all year going in and out of our school building. I am hopeful that these educational supplies can be used in our 2 way dual language program via Zoom. Our teachers are creating such engaging content using the state standards, but we get very little exploratory time. These back packs will be a wonderful gift for our students to work at home.
