Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine if your neighborhood block and the school you attend were the entire world to you?
My students live in a low-income area and attend a Title 1 school.
Their parents don't have the means to take them out into the community to gain the life experiences they need. The school also does not have the funds to send students on field trips.
My Project
I attended a Saturday workshop and received an inPerson video conferencing camera. However, the video camera must be attached to a projector, which is why I am requesting the Epson VS210 projector.
The camera will allow the students to take virtual field trips to museums, parks, tide pools, and the list goes on. For example, we could take a virtual trip to the weather center at Baldwin Hills Park. There, the park ranger will provide lessons on weather such as how rain clouds are formed, temperature ranges for cities around the world, and lunar cycles. They could take a trip to the beach where their personal docent will introduce them to sea life. They would introduce students to a live starfish and explain its life cycle, its texture, its food, and survival skills. This will really open up their eyes to what is out there.
This project will impact my students by providing personal exposure to places and people outside of the neighborhood where they live.
They will have life engaging experiences even with limited resources.
