Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low income and diverse backgrounds. They are full of life and imagination. Many come from other countries which don't speak English. They arrive to our country with very little and hope for a lot. They are unsure of their surroundings and who to trust. I try to make them feel safe and welcome.

They are eager to explore the world around them.

I try to make them feel secure to question and discover what the world has to offer them. We start the year as strangers but after a few weeks we learn to communicate and share our individual stories either by words or pictures.

I tell my class that we are a family and that we need to look after each other and care for each other's feelings. It takes a while but eventually they learn to make each other smile or laugh when they see someone sad or upset in class. By the end of the year, they see each other as brothers and sisters.

My Project

My students begin the year with little knowledge of letter sounds and Number sense. We will use the cardstock paper to create giant letter cards that they will fill with words and pictures representing the letters. The base ten blocks and colored dots will be used in Math. The headphones and adapters will help them work on their laptop and classroom desktops when the laptops malfunction. They used their laptops for computer programs and to find pictures for letters and words we may be discussing.

My students are always eager to learn, especially when they have their hands on the project.
