Violins Help Students Succeed

My students need 2 violins to participate in an after school program for children and parents.

Our school is a Title 1 school that serves a population of 470 students, who speak twelve different languages. Our community realizes that music is important for building self-esteem and for socialization. Research has shown that children who have been exposed to musical experiences perform better in all academic areas, in particular reading and math. Lastly, students succeed when their parents are actively involved in their education.

In the past several years, our school has made a great effort to improve our music program. We currently have a keyboard lab that is used by one-third of our students. However, cuts to the school budgets have left us little resources for the arts.

We are creating an after-school program geared to students and their parents. Our aim is to provide direct music instruction to about 15-20 children and their parents once a week from a professional musician for about 32 weeks. In addition, we hope to allow the program participants to take the violins home to practice during the week. The program will culminate in several performances for the school community and the community-at-large.

Your assistance will help us create an after-school music program that will foster a lifetime of success for the students. You will make it possible for our children to gain self-esteem, music appreciation, and develop deeper levels of understanding in all academic areas. We would be grateful to any generous person who can help us with this project.
