My Students

I teach in a classroom where we are excited about what we do. We are expressive, critical thinkers. We take risks, we learn from our mistakes, and we celebrate our successes.

I teach orchestra to approximately 200 students in grades 6-8.

We are learners and musicians. We are excited about what we do, and we use music to explore history, science, literacy, and other arts. My students are racially and socioeconomically diverse. But they all have one thing in common. They are aspiring musicians.

My Project

I teach music in a school that is constantly adding learners! It is exciting to have so many students in one school that are enthusiastic about learning music, but the reality is that our budget cannot keep up with the needs of the students.

Every student who desires to learn an instrument deserves to have access to that opportunity.

However, the reality is that unless we as a school can provide an instrument, there are literally hundreds of kids who would never get to try it out.

True musicians are not only those who have families who can afford the opportunity. I believe that everyone is a musician, and that I can show every kid their talent, brilliance, and love for playing the violin. With this project, I will have enough instruments in my classroom to embark on that journey.
