My Students
I teach instrumental music for grades 6, 7 and 8. We are a high needs Title I School. Eighty-five percent of our students qualify for free lunch. Our music program is growing and we need more instrument supplies to service the students who want and deserve to take music classes.
Our students are enthusiastic and conscientious learners and are very interested in cultural arts.
Many of the students have a desire to study music and learn to play the violin. We want to give them the opportunity to fulfill their dream of playing the violin.
My Project
The shoulder rest is a necessary component to the violin outfit, as it is a padded piece that is clipped onto the back of the violin and helps the young beginner learn to hold the instrument properly and comfortably. Without a shoulder rest, the violin is very difficult to handle, which distracts the beginner from the more important task of learning how to play the instrument.

As more and more students enroll in the program, we need to provide those students with supplies as well as instruments. It has been my experience that when students know that there are people out there who care, they find a new vitality and enthusiasm for what they are doing.
