My Students

I teach in a classroom where we are excited about what we do.

We are expressive, critical thinkers.

We take risks, we learn from our mistakes, and we celebrate our successes.

I teach orchestra to approximately 140 students in grades 6-8. We are learners and musicians. We are excited about what we do, and we use music to explore history, science, literacy, and other arts. My students are racially and socioeconomically diverse. But they all have one thing in common. They are aspiring musicians.

My Project

My school is in need of an additional 14" viola for student use.

Any musician will tell you that playing on a quality instrument can make or break the experience for a young musician!

This instrument will allow my student to play with a beautiful, inspiring sound that will only encourage their growth.

To no one's blame, we lost a viola to damage a few weeks ago. It was not a case of negligence, just an unfortunate break that ended up totaling the instrument. Unfortunately, our budget does not have the means to replace this instrument, and until we figure out a better solution, students are sharing violas. This means that they cannot practice at home.

The student who will receive this viola for the remainder of the school year is a remarkable learner and musician, who will be beyond grateful for the opportunity to play on a quality instrument. Furthermore, this instrument will be played by additional students for years to come. Beginners will take this viola out of its case one day, only to, with time and practice, become bonafide musicians!
