Kindergarten and 1st grade are the building blocks of a child's education. My students come from a very diverse background. All of my students have special needs ranging from autism to significant developmental delay, emotional behavior disabilities, or sensory processing disorders. Each day they come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn and we work together on creating a comfortable and safe learning environment. Our school has a 30% free and reduced-price meal plan population along with a 10% special education population.
My students are so excited about all of the things they are going to learn this year in all subject areas.
I know that they are going to put their best effort forward and I would like to assist them with that task. All of my students are unique and have their own way of learning. Not one of them learns in the same way. I hope to create a learning environment in which my students are able to become life long learners.
My Project
These materials will help my student build their independence. One thing often students complain about is not having a teacher at their side. By using these math materials, my students will gain independence in their ability to complete math activities at their own levels.
Mathematical thinking is applied into all areas of a student's thinking and is a life long skill that will follow them their whole lives.
By providing materials that are hands on and visual, my students will gain a better understanding of the building blocks of their mathematical thinking. Without a solid foundation in math, students will continue to struggle as more and more critical thinking is required. Please help me, help them.
