Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The poetry class set of books I’m requesting will provide my students with a rich, diverse collection of voices and perspectives, fostering creativity, empathy, and critical thinking. These books will be used to introduce students to the power of language, expression, and rhythm in ways that are both engaging and thought-provoking. With these resources, students will not only improve their reading comprehension but also gain confidence in their own writing.

My primary goal for this project is to build a classroom library of poetry that sparks curiosity and inspires self-expression.

By introducing students to a variety of poets, styles, and themes, I hope to encourage them to connect with the material in personal ways, whether through reading or writing. In addition, I aim to create a space where students can experiment with their own writing, develop their literacy skills, and explore different forms of creative expression. Ultimately, I want to instill a lifelong love of reading and writing poetry, as well as boost their confidence in their ability to analyze and appreciate literature.

My students are incredibly diverse, with a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and learning styles. They are curious, creative, and eager to explore new ideas, and many of them thrive when given the opportunity to engage in hands-on, interactive learning experiences. Despite challenges they may face outside the classroom, they show resilience and determination to succeed. Many of my students have not yet been exposed to poetry in a meaningful way, so this project will introduce them to a new form of expression that has the potential to resonate deeply.
