My Students

We want to feed hungry worms to make food for our school garden to grow produce for our community.

As an urban, inner city, Title 1 school, our students thrive when afforded enriched curriculum that puts learning to action.

Many of our students have never worked in a garden let alone composted, this project will allow them to "experience" their learning rather than simply reading it from a science textbook.

My Project

The materials we are requesting will make composting come to life for the students. The compost bin will allow students to put their snack scraps and food scraps from lunch back to the Earth. The transparent container will provide students firsthand knowledge of how worms feed on organic material and break it down. The soil probe will allow us to monitor the pH levels and the books will provide students with a resource to learn facts about worms and other animals.

Students will be better able to understand and apply the concepts once they have had an related experience.

The WormWatcher will allow us to elaborately study the composting process and help my students obtain a desire to recycle.
