This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an extraordinary group of middle school students in the Bronx. I believe that my students, and all students, have so much potential and I want to use that to enhance their future both inside and out of education. My students are very diverse, both in their variety of cultures, their needs and their learning styles which makes my job the best in the world.

My students constantly keep me on my toes and their curious minds teach me something new every day.

Most of my students are living in poverty, have insecure housing, or are either immigrants or first-generation Americans. Most of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and all of my students are exceptional individuals who show up each and every day, ready to learn.

My Project

This year the Student Council is working hard to make our school a better place. One of the ways we are doing this is by completing monthly sustainable tasks. One of our tasks is to bring gardening practices and fresh herbs and vegetables into the classroom. Eventually, by Earth Day (this is our goal), we will have a station set up for students and families to purchase fresh herbs for their families. Therefore, we are going to try out a hydroponic garden! Not only is this a sustainable task for student council, but plant growth is also a part of the science curriculum!
