This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from an extremely low-income/high poverty area within our district. They face many challenges both in and out of the classroom: lack of support, food, clothing, and resources to help them further their education. Despite the multiple challenges they have, I am continually looking to provide them with meaningful ways to experience learning.
My Project
It meets the science standards (3-LS1-1), the writing standards (W.3.3), and the math standards (3.MD.B.3). Students will use the standards in different ways while using them together.
By having students grow their own veggies, they will learn use the Life Science standards, they will write about their veggies and meet the writing standards, and they will use math to graph the growth of various veggies to see change over time.
Students will see the life cycle of plants up close and personal. When students observe their plants, they will write in their journals to document what they see. Finally, students will use math in new and interesting ways to log their plant's growth.
