This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ralph Emerson once said that "every artist was once an amateur." I am hoping to cultivate the love in art in my little amateurs so that they may become magnificent artists one day!

I absolutely adore my 25 1st graders.

I have been fortunate enough to be their teacher for the last two years and as the year inches closer to the end, I am dreading the day when I have to send them off to a completely different school and disassemble our lovely little classroom family. Against all odds, these children come to school every day with an extreme thirst for life and learning. They may live in a gang infested neighborhood where buildings and walls are constantly covered with graffiti, but they are strong and resilient little people. As I've watched them grow, I cannot wait to see what they can become. I am looking forward to my last two and a half months with my wonderful children and would love to request these supplies to bring a little more hands-on learning to all the great things that we are already doing.

My Project

We absolutely love art and I do the best that I can to bring that into our daily lessons. Art allows the students to let their creativity flow and allows them to in turn view the world in a more diverse and open perspective. We have been studying one new author every week for the last 6 months and following along that theme, I would like to have the students study one new artist each week. Upon learning about the artists, their techniques, and viewing their art samples, we will then impart on our journey to make our own masterpieces. And this can only be done if we receive the materials that we are requesting. We need the watercolor paper to create our watercolor images. We need the canvas and acrylic paint to make our own "Starry Night." We need various arts and crafts supplies to do as Georgia O'Keefe said. We will be "saying things with colors and shapes that we cannot say with words."

"The world is but a canvas for our imagination" is a quote that resonates with me.

Perfectly said by Henry Thoreau! But in order to bring this quote to fruition, I will need this project funded. Please help my 25 angelic first graders create their own canvases of life!
