My Project
My students are bright, curious, and full of energy. They love to explore new ideas, ask questions, and celebrate their learning with joy and enthusiasm. Their excitement motivates me to create classroom experiences that reflect their identities, cultures, and the diverse world around them.
Increasing bilingualism—especially in Spanish, the second most spoken language in the US —not only builds communication skills but also helps validate and uplift the heritage languages and cultures of many of our students.
To promote representation, racial equity, and joyful learning, I’m requesting bilingual books, Spanish letter puzzles, and maracas to support Spanish language learning in our classroom.
The bilingual books will give students the opportunity to see themselves and their families reflected in the stories we read together. For students who speak Spanish at home, this creates a powerful connection between their lives and school. For others, it opens a window into different cultures and ways of speaking, promoting empathy and inclusion from an early age.
The Spanish letter puzzles will allow students to build language and literacy skills through hands-on learning. As they connect letters, sounds, and words in Spanish, students develop early reading skills while also gaining confidence in engaging with a new language—and by extension, a new perspective.
The maracas will make language learning joyful and memorable. Each time a student learns a new Spanish word, they’ll shake their maraca in celebration—honoring their growth and the beauty of multilingualism. These materials will help ensure all students feel seen, valued, and included while building a more just and representative classroom community.
