Utilizing Technology to Improve Student Physical Fitness

My students need a TV/DVD player to expand upon our physical education curriculum.

My Students

With the ever rising obesity rates in children, we are constantly trying to find new ways to allow our students to get physical exercise.

We are a rural Jr/Sr high school with limited resources.

Our weightroom can become quite cramped for addressing physical fitness principles. The students have bought into our fitness based program, and I believe that they could further benefit from this addition to the curriculum.

My Project

With a TV/DVD player we could also offer programs such as aerobics, tae bo, and much more for students to participate in. We focus our class on the five principles of physical fitness; but the ability to address the cardiovascular aspect of our workout is limited, we run. With the addition of aerobic or tae bo DVDs which would be played on the TV/DVD player, the students would have another option to improve cardiovascular endurance. Students would also have the option to participate in this for their class activity, rather than playing the daily activity.

As I stated before, with the alarming increase in childhood obesity, I believe that the more options students have to see and participate in concerning physical fitness, the more likely the are to find something that they enjoy and will continue to participate in once they have graduated.

Not everyone is interested in running or being on a sports team. Playing fitness DVDs on a TV/DVD player is another opportunity for the students to enjoy physical fitness.
