My Students
This year, I have a class of twenty-six students. From what I have learned so far, a good majority do not like reading! I am excited to take on this challenge by exposing students to different types of books and reading material to help them see that reading is fun! With the challenges this year with Covid, it has been my mission for students always to have access to a good book.
My Project
The objects I chose for this grant will help get students excited about reading. I have been doing book clubs in my classroom this year, and I have never had such avid readers! This is great because they came to me not liking to read. These books will help fill my classroom library with more of the books this particular group of students is interested in. I encourage students to take home books to read to help with this love of reading. Unfortunately, that means some books get destroyed or lost. This will help me replenish my book sets.
I have also asked for supplies we use each year for science.
In fourth grade we learn about energy transfer, sound waves, and animal and plant structures and functions. We have a lot of hands on activities that help support the learning of these standards. The flashlights, cups, string, foil, magnifying lenses, and balloons are all part of hands on experiments we do each year to help teach the fourth grade science standards.
It is also important for me to provide places for students to work in pairs and groups. I have asked for two flexible seating options to add to our classroom where students can either work with a partner on an assignment, or go to a spot where they can learn independently.
Every teacher knows that motivating students sometimes can be difficult. Some of the items I requested will be used as rewards students can earn when competing in some of our fun class learning games. Having an incentive they can use in class like pens, pop its, mechanical pencils, or even mini erasers helps students get excited about the activity.
And don't forget about the expo markers and erasers we never have enough of!
