This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a 6th grade math teacher requesting funding for adhesive dry erase whiteboards for my classroom of 23 students. As an educator committed to enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes, I believe these materials are essential for fostering an environment that encourages active participation, collaboration, and cooperative learning strategies.

In our classroom, we utilize cooperative learning approaches, where students work together in small groups to solve problems, share ideas, and support one another’s learning.

On a typical day in my class, I pose a prompt/question to the students. They are given 5-10 minutes, depending on the difficulty to respond and as a team show their work and write their reasoning. This continues throughout the entire 56 minute class time. Students get a chance to actively collaborate in this way for a common goal. Dry erase whiteboards would be invaluable in these activities, as they allow students to actively engage in brainstorming sessions, write and share their ideas with peers, and make real-time adjustments to their work.

In addition, the use of dry erase whiteboards also promotes a sustainable and efficient learning environment, as they can be easily wiped clean for repeated use without waste. Poster papers can become wasteful to the environment and it is not feasible to acquire enough for the school year. I currently have some whiteboards that are in rough shape after being used by the students.

This funding will directly support the continued success of our cooperative learning initiatives and ensure that each student has the tools they need to participate fully.
