Using Ukuleles to Uplift

Help me give my students a chance to combine their love of music and math by helping us get 10 ukuleles and cases for our music club.

My Students

The Language Learners at our Title I school need engaging activities to enhance their understanding and heighten their interest. We have a high population of students for whom English is a second language. We are also designated as a Title I school due to the high numbers of students who qualify for free or reduced cost lunches. We have difficulty doing any kind of fundraising. We use most of our discretionary funding for staff to work directly with the students in small groups. We've made great gains in student growth, but still need to use every opportunity to engage students and keep them excited about learning.

My Project

Please help us provide our students with a chance to learn to play the Ukulele. We need 10 Ukuleles and cases to loan to students that can't afford to buy instruments or pay for lessons. We provide the lessons and give them opportunities to perform for parents, the school, and even at the State Capital. We had a few ukuleles for loan last year, but many more students wanted to participate than we could accommodate. Music is uplifting and will help them build confidence when they seek other interests. Research shows that students who pursue the arts have more success in other academic areas.
