Using the iPad to Increase Communication for Students With DeafBlindness

My students need one Apple iPad Pro with an Otterbox protective case so they can communicate with their communication partners and have access to variety of educational programs created for students with disabilities.

My Students

The students I work with our students who have DeafBlindness. DeafBlindness is a dual sensory impairment, impairing my student's hearing and vision. Most of my students are the only Deaf/DeafBlind child in his/her family and the communication process can be very challenging.

As an Itinerant Teacher of the DeafBlind it is my job to provide my students with the ability to access his/her environment to the best of his/ability and help all individuals in my student's environment learn and capitalize on ways to communicate with him/her.

My Project

Students with DeafBlindness can be left alone at times because individuals may not understand or have the means by which to communicate with them. This communication can be clearly seen when a student with DeafBlindness can access programs such as LightBox on the IPAD. LightBox is a vividly colored program accessed and activated by touch.

Having this requested iPad Pro as a tool to enhance and even initiate communication exchanges with students with DeafBlindness is an asset beyond belief.

The iPad will provide LightBox and many other digital avenues by which my students will be able to tap into their world.
