This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My two ELL/EFL classes are full of eager and inquisitive 3rd graders who are constantly ready to attain fresh information and learn something new. Most of my students are new to the country and are always full of questions, and wanting to know the world around them in a new language. Their curiosity is invigorating and refreshing, and is contagious among our classroom community.
What makes my students even more spectacular is that they are part of a dual language program where they acquire a second language, English for the Spanish speakers and Spanish for the Spanish speakers.
The students get to practice skills in an environment that requires them to get their "creative juices" flowing!
My Project
Students will be using the floating HP laptop as an additional resource to assist learning English as a second language. They will use programs, such Language Verb trainer, to help them improve their use and conjugation of verbs, and Speaking Pal, an interactive resource which offers exercises and dialog with a virtual character, role-playing, and a series of mini lessons. Speaking pal comes with speech and language recognition and provides instant feedback the students love.
The HP desktop computer will be used for whole group instruction in conjunction to our school-wide iReady program, by projecting programs on a large screen with visual instructions.
With my years of experience as an ELL teacher, visuals for immigrant students learning a new language means everything! This can all be achieved with the donation of both these electronics.
