Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students from this century are most excited and challenged by technology. I would love to incorporate more of this media into my classroom activities. I am teaching a third grade class with a gifted cluster as well as a cluster of ELD students who have recently entered the English Language Development program and therefore are limited in their English abilities. In order to engage both of these learning groups, I plan to incorporate more technology. One of the projects I would like to create is a video journal of our class that records some of the activities we participate in throughout the year. I want students to learn to edit and create a video using various software programs. Another project I plan to implement is video presentations by students. To make reading come alive, students are highly motivated by theater. Therefore, I would like to help students create skits using their reading material as well as Reader's Theater scripts to help them develop confidence, higher reading skills, and digital editing/production abilities. In order to complete these projects, I am requesting a DVD camcorder, a memory stick to transport information to the computer for editing/producing. I am also requesting recordable DVD's so that I may make DVD's for my students at the end of the year, showing all the work they have created throughout the year. This would be highly motivating for my mixed group of students and it will definitely help me enhance their learning. Using technology in this way is a challenge for me, as I am learning how to use technology to enhance my teaching. However, I welcome the challenge for my students and myself and would really like to provide this opportunity for my students to experience different media in their education journey.
