Using Technology in the Science Classroom!

My students need a LCD multimedia projector for viewing related science video clips, Power Point presentations, and science notes.

I teach 4th, 5th, and 6th grade science in a high-need urban setting. 100% of the students are economically disadvantaged and receive free breakfast and lunch.

As the science teacher for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at my school, I feel it is very important to integrate technology use into my classroom. As I teach each new topics, I want to reach all my learners. Some learn through hands-on experiments, others learn by seeing the information presented in a Power Point format, and still others learn by hearing and seeing unique video clips and animations. Sadly, we lack the available technology to fully enable me to do this for my students.

By donating a multimedia projector to my science classroom, I can bring the science topics fully to life for my students. By hooking the multimedia projector to my laptop, I can not only tell my students about the science topics, I can also show them animations that will help further their understanding. I can use websites like teachertube.com and Discovery Education to enhance the students understanding through related science clips. Students can learn important note taking skills through the use of Power Point presentations. We can complete Web Quests as a class by displaying what is on the computer's monitor on the screen for the entire class to see and experience. The possibilities for use and learning are endless!
