Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very eager to learn. My biggest challenge is finding ways to keep my students focused and engaged during class instruction. We are limited to classroom experiences, and I want to make the most out of each learning opportunity. My classroom is very unique. We have a wide variety of different personalities and academic learning levels. Each day I am able to see the lack of motivation in my students.

Teaching students in a low socioeconomic Title I school can be a challenge.

My students come from low-income families who are unable to support or provide them with learning experiences, such as going to museums. My students lack motivation and at times are unprepared for learning. They demonstrate their best work through alternative seating learning, where they are able to choose a different part of the classroom to complete their assignments. My students enjoy learning, but when there are no supporting materials to engage them on, they start to lose the motivation we had built during the lesson. Most of my students are better learners when they are given the opportunity to choose their comfort zone around our classroom.

My Project

I am asking for an iPad Pro for my classroom. This device will allow my students to use the interactive material that our new curriculum has built in. My students will use the iPad in their centers to play interactive reading games, practices their spelling, watch grammar videos, read e-books, and take online reading tests from Scholastic Reading. My students will be put on a rotation schedule allowing each student time with the iPad during the week.

My students start the iPad easily, chooses an application and is involved in a fun, game-like educational activity.

With Hurricane Harvey, my students have lost a lot of time of learning. Using technology in my class will help my students recover that time, while they enjoy learning reading and math using technology.
