Using Tech to Go Green (Screen, That Is!)

Help me give my students the ability to express their creativity by creating multimedia presentations to accompany and enliven their written work and express their understanding of concepts and texts.

My Project

The students at my school come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of the families work very hard to afford the basic necessities of life. As such, they are not always able to take advantage of opportunities afforded to families and students in more affluent areas.

My goal is to provide my students, and my school, with as many of these opportunities as possible.

My students are curious about the world around them and eager to find new ways to express their thoughts and ideas. Through cross-curricular planning and project-based learning, we are expanding our minds and horizons at the same time.

Teachers are constantly looking for ways to help students engage with what they are learning. Green-screen technology allows them the freedom to place themselves into their projects by being inside scenarios and locations they are referencing in their presentations. Students discussing Colonial America can have a backdrop of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, or fly through the cosmos while discussing the celestial bodies within our solar system. The iPad, stand, and green-screen kit will help facilitate this extension of the lessons.

Academically, these tools will be the centerpiece of a variety of PBLs over the course of the school year. They will use visual and multimedia elements to contribute to the meaning, tone, and beauty of a text (RL 5.7). They will also be able to include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to enhance the development of main ideas and themes (SL.5.5).
