My Students
My classroom is like my students' home-away-from-home. It is a place where I am fostering a love of learning with a sense of independence. My classroom is set up to be a place where my students can learn and feel as though they are somewhere safe.
Our school is the poorest and in one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S.
School is typically the only safe haven these kids know. My students live in a city where the dynamics can change in the blink of an eye. Even though my students live in a city that has its ups and downs, they are always eager to come to school to learn and experience new and exciting things. The students in my class are all classified as "Autistic" and as one student said, "We are all autistic in our own ways." All the students in my building look out for my students and they will give them "high-5s" when they see them. I want to be able to provide my students with every experience that they will need to be successful in this world.
My Project
The office supplies that I am requesting such as pencils and paper are all things that most students take for granted, but for me, I want to be able to supply my students with the necessary office supplies that will help them to increase their learning in my classroom. In my classroom, I have made it a place that my students feel comfortable and excited to learn. Many of my students come to school not being able to attain all the necessary learning supplies that they need. I feel that it is my job as a teacher to make sure that the supplies that they will need are here and ready for them when they come to school in September.
In my classroom, students use index cards to write their vocabulary terms and definitions, as well as key concepts to help them to study in preparation for any quiz or test that they may take.
I also want to make sure that all the necessary office supplies are here for them so that they do not feel stressed about what they do not have. My students are very special young people who are always worried about having Autism and feeling different, and if I can provide everything that they will need to be successful in high school, then they will not feel different.
