Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a public school in Richmond, CA with strong Latinx and African-American roots. Most of my students are bilingual and come from low-income families. Our school is a Title 1 school that offers 100% free breakfast and lunch to meet their needs. My students are very bright and full of curiosity; they are always asking great questions, and are eager to learn new things.

My second graders are compassionate, caring, and highly perceptive of people's thoughts and emotions despite being so young.

This amazing class of exceptional students is resourceful, resilient, and eager to jumpstart a new school year full of adventures.

My Project

Most of my students have a hard time understanding the math concepts of time, money values, and length. The concepts may seem too abstract at first, but my students are very bright and work really hard to understand them.

Help me make math fun, rigorous, and meaningful by giving my class a set of real-life objects for them to practice important life skills like telling time, counting money, and measuring length.

This project would give my second graders the following set of real-life objects and math manipulatives: 24 mini clocks, 2 cash registers, play money, and unifix cubes. Please help me make math fun and relevant to my students. Give my students an opportunity to learn math in an engaging manner; with hands-on learning experiences and manipulatives to meet their learning goals.
