This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever taken a music class that had no instruments? I have been asked to build a music program at an inner-city middle school that has no resources. Help us provide instruments for these students to learn to play! With your help, these students will learn to express themselves in a new way!
My students are 6-8 graders living in an economically struggling community in New York.
The neighborhood is widely known as a violent and dangerous one that doesn't offer many positive activities for young teenagers. They love music, especially hip-hop and constantly want to create beats and rhythms. However, they currently don't have any instruments to accomplish this. We have an opportunity to greatly impact these students and their community by starting this performing arts program. Please consider helping.
My Project
By having 12 egg shakers, 4 Rain Forest Djembe's an 2 Freestyle Djembe's, students will learn new ways to express themselves through the performing arts. We will learn music theory and also perform and create original music with these percussion instruments.
In a neighborhood and environment where negativity, poverty and violence are at the forefront, this is an opportunity to infuse some life into a rather grim situation. Please consider donating to this cause. You will not be sorry!
These materials will greatly impact the students by providing them the materials and resources they need to learn the content (music) and also create original compositions.
In addition, they will be able to perform with these instruments which will provide the very much needed self-esteem and confidence boosting that many of these students lack. It is also very likely to have a significant, positive impact on the classroom and school culture.
