Help me give my students the necessary mentor texts as recommended by Fountas and Pinnell "The Reading Minilessons Book." The selected texts will be used either in the classroom or in a blended classroom, depending on the pandemic.

My Students
‘I did not realize that I took my routine and school day for granted until now.’
A school is a place for building friendships, learning responsibility, and getting an escape from the house, but it seems as though the Coronavirus has taken that all away from us.
For me, I loved getting to see my students every day in the school environment. But, 2 weeks turned into 13 weeks, with a very cloudy outlook for the fall and the start of a new school year. When we left for our "short break" in March, I was on the verge of breaking new ground in reading and writing with the implementation of mentor texts. I have always loved using books for instruction but was always under the impression it was just for primary age students. But once I realized how effective they could be with my big kids, I happily unwrapped these picture book treasures and carted them off to school. Now, many of my picture books are key mentor texts...the stars of countless mini-lessons.
My Project
Why do I love mentor texts and use them so often in my classroom? Let me give you five good reasons...
1.
Mentor Texts Can be Used Across the Curriculum
When you look at all of the things you have to teach during the day, it's great to find a tool that is as versatile as mentor texts.
2. Mentor Texts are Time Efficient
I love the fact that mentor texts are short and sweet. After all, unlike a chapter book, picture books only have a limited number of pages to get their point across.
3. Mentor Texts are Engaging
One of the very best things about using mentor texts with big kids is that they're fun! There's no denying it!
4. Mentor Texts Serve as a Bridge to More Complex Text
5. Mentor Texts are Effective
Lastly, using mentor texts as part of a teacher's tried and true strategies is very successful in the classroom.
