Using Literature In The Math Classroom

My students need books for read alouds and for students to reread to extend their learning.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Smith's classroom raised $328

This project is fully funded

I am a passionate third grade teacher. My classroom is a diverse group of 25 students. We are a public school with an approximate enrollment of 400 students.

My students are astounded everyday when I share that reading and mathematics are tied together and can be integrated in the classroom. The Every Day math series that we utilize has a grade level literature list of books that can be used to teach math concepts. There are books that teach math concepts such as geometry, counting money, measurement, fractions and other math skills. What a great way to reinforce the math skill I just taught with a book! Students love picture books at any age and picture books with a math theme are rarely found in a classroom library. In addition, most of these books can't be found in our school library either for students to check out for reading.

Adding these books to my classroom will help improve students’ reading ability and increase their comprehension of the math skill. Also, students will be able to reread these books for a deeper understanding of the math concepts. I believe that I am providing additional knowledge to create lifelong lovers of math and reading. These are a few of the reasons I am asking for these books for my classroom. This collection of books will be a resource that will be enjoyed by students for years to come.

Your help will make it possible for my students to use this literature to aid in providing them with a greater understanding of mathematical concepts.
