Help me give my students books that can be used to encourage understanding multiple perspectives and overcoming obstacles.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Wolfe's classroom raised $334
This project is fully funded
My Students
Our school is in a rural community, in South Carolina, where tradition is thick and families depend on one another. We are a Title I school. Ninety-two percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch plans. Students in our school are considered at-risk of failure and live at or near poverty level. I have students from many different races, religions, and academic levels. Their interests are just as diverse! They are full of personality and are just beginning to discover that they can make a difference in their world!
My Project
These books will be used for read-alouds, shared reading, and independent reading in K5-5th Grade classrooms. The laminator will be used for specific projects associated with these units.
Students don't always have the opportunity to "walk a mile" in someone else's shoes, but books can give them opportunities to understand different perspectives.
They also need to build a skill set for overcoming obstacles in life - strategies for approaching problems and set backs in a healthy way. The books I have chosen for this grant focus on understanding multiple perspectives and overcoming obstacles. I love how literacy instruction not only teaches students to become readers and writers. It also teaches life lessons!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
