Using Literacy to Increase Engineering and Technology Skills
Help me give my students the skills to apply their use of technology and engineering skills through literacy with the use of computer mouses, ABC building and magnetic materials, and books.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Technology is key in today's classrooms. While my students have Chromebooks, they are all in need of a mouse to help support the use and activities that they are asked to do on their Chromebooks. Many of my younger students do not function well with the mouse pad, so by supporting them with a USB mouse, they will better maneuver and interact with the learning activities on the Chromebooks.
Little minds can still be little engineers.
I support students of all ages and literacy is a foundation of our classroom. With the use of manipulatives that strengthen literacy while reinforcing the use of technology and engineering; will better prepare their minds for a future where these skills will be apart of the workforce.
I chose different types of alphabet manipulatives that will require them to connect alphabet upper and lowercase names and sounds while using magnets, building, constructing, and use problem solving. I have identified Skill Card collections that will help them use problem solving to comprehend, apply conversational skills, and literacy with all forms of text to guide them in world where you will need to do research to create. I have asked for books where I can do read-alouds to teach students about the jobs of the future by introducing them to STEM jobs from A-Z with early literacy age as well as elementary.
