Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Over the summer, I was able to take some courses about the impact that games have on students in the classroom. Games can help students become engaged with number sense, comparing numbers, and support practice with reading and memorization. My classroom is short of games to support my students in these areas.

My project has games for literacy and math practice, as well as water bottles to keep my students hydrated during the school day.

A few of the games in my project are Shut the Box and Trouble. These games involve dice and counting on. These are great skills that my students are learning about in 1st grade. Another game is called Reel Big Catch Game. This game requires players to "hook" plastic fish, and the player with the longest fish wins. This game is perfect for comparing and measuring length, which is something taught in 1st grade math. Another game is called Tongues Out, which is a memory game. This game requires players to match dog tongues with certain colors, which is great memory and color practice. The last game is Apples to Apples Jr. This game is perfect for reading practice, as well as practice with creating categories and practicing adjectives. The last item on this project is for water bottles. Our classroom does not have a sink, so students are unable to hydrate during the day. I would love to supply each student with a water bottle, so they can stay hydrated during the school day. This project has many beneficial games and resources that will support my students next school year. We hope you are able to support us with this project!
