Using Chromebooks to Improve 21st Century Learning
My students need 10 additional Chromebooks to provide all students with the opportunity to learn skills needed for a 21st century world.

My Students
When your school is losing support due to budget cuts and class size is doubling for the same reason, students need to see that people still care about their futures. Help support Philadelphia students by providing them with functioning computers for the classroom.
Neil deGrasse Tyson once tweeted "We spend more time forcing students to learn than we do motivating them to learn in the first place." In my classroom, I strive to make the learning process come alive for my students.
My students live in an urban community surrounded by negative influences. Once they come into the classroom, it is a challenge to help them see that there is more to the world. My students dream of a better life and they are working hard to better themselves.
Currently in our classroom, we have six remaining functional MacBooks that were purchased in 2006 when our school district received a grant for technology. Although they are functional, these computers are extremely slow and constantly breaking.
My Project
This year, we began using Google Apps in the classroom as a way for students to collaborate on projects. This was difficult when we don't have enough functioning computers for each student.
You will be helping my students learn many skills. Besides the basic computer skills that they will develop while using these Chromebooks, my students will also learn about persuasive writing and presenting proposals to those above them. When the students work hard to reach their goal, they will gain a sense of accomplishment and take more ownership in their own education and futures.
I want my students to see the advantage to these machines and understand that they don't need $2000 "super computers" to better themselves. By using the Chromebooks from the beginning of the school year, I want my students to do research and write a proposal to the principal and school district to begin a 1:1 program.
Earlier this week, my first Donor's Choose project was fully funded.
This project was created to springboard off that fundraiser. I am requesting ten more Chromebooks. My students need Chromebooks to replace their outdated and breaking computers. These Chromebooks will help encourage collaboration in the classroom.
