My Students
I teach math, science, and social studies to nearly 50 eager and enthusiastic 3rd graders. One of the best things about teaching third grade is that they soak everything in that you teach them. They are little sponges and are so eager and engaged in what you are doing within the classroom.
Each morning I am greeted by many smiling faces who come to school eager to learn.
As a teacher at a school in a low-income/high poverty area, many of my students are faced with many challenges both inside and outside the classroom. While I cannot control most of their challenges when they leave the classroom, I do my best to provide them with support and resources for them to be successful.
My Project
While in the classroom, sometimes learning takes place outside of the academics. At times, we do focus on how to manage feelings, how to be a friend, as well as other social and emotional topics. Some students do not know how to manage their feelings, and as teachers we try out best to help them learn.
My hope is that I can help give my students the tools to manage their feelings, and know how to be a compassionate person through life.
Through either reading a book themselves, or gathering on the carpet for a read aloud from me, I hope that my students will enjoy and take away a lesson about different topics. From managing our feelings in an appropriate manner, learning how to make friends, using manners, and treating our classmates with respect, the variety of books will help my students be able to accomplish these goals.
