This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love how curious, creative, and expressive my 4th and 5th graders are. They come from diverse backgrounds, and I’m especially inspired by my newcomers from Venezuela who are eager to learn and connect. In our social-emotional learning class, I use art as a tool for self-expression and communication. Art helps them process their feelings and share their unique stories with their peers, even when language is a barrier.

The markers, colored pencils, paper, and magnets I’m requesting will provide my students with the materials they need to bring their ideas to life.

With these resources, they can create visual representations of their emotions, experiences, and dreams. My goal is to foster a classroom environment where every student feels seen, heard, and connected. These items will allow my students to express themselves in ways that words cannot always capture, helping them build confidence and stronger relationships with their classmates.

What makes my students special is their resilience, creativity, and openness. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new country and language, they continue to embrace learning with enthusiasm. These supplies will be instrumental in helping them feel empowered and included as valuable members of our classroom community.
