My Students

In a small town in Central Florida live 4th grade students from hard working families. These students are active learners who have a thirst for knowledge and a love of school. They enjoy learning new things and sharing their knowledge with the class.

My 4th grade students are curious and innovative.

They dive deep into literature and enjoy hands-on learning activities. These 4th graders spend their day immersed in authentic literacy and they love to participate in creative and collaborative assignments.

My Project

As my students build their skills as readers, they carefully observe a text and revisit the text to gain understanding. Each time a text is revisited, it creates an image in the child's "mind's eye" that can be used as inspiration for a work of art. This art can be a springboard for class discussions that help students dive deep into conversations and written responses about the text.

When analyzing the art created in response to a text, students are building their skills in speaking, listening, and writing.

Giving students an opportunity to produce art in response to a written work will encourage students to develop a deeper understanding of the text. They will be making connections to the text as they observe more details in the text.
