My Students

Have you ever been in a group of people and the leader had something small to show the whole group. Everyone crowds around and no one but those in the very front can see. This happened to me last year when a cricket started to molt in the science class that I was teaching.

I teach in a 4th grade integrated classroom in an elementary school in Delaware.

My students are very energetic and curious about the world around them. They are visual learners and learn so much more when they see it. They are not satisfied with rote memorization, they want to know why and they want to experience it. So when the cricket started molting I knew that they would all want to watch from the beginning to the end. I was very lucky that I had access to an ELMO and a projector that day. I was able to put the cricket under the viewer and we all were able to watch it molt for the comfort of our seats. Everyone could see clearly and easily. I was able to zoom in for them to see a fascinating example of nature at its best. It was not in a book or in a movie, but happening live right in front of them. My students were able to experience something that many adults have not seen and it was all due to having the ELMO viewer in my classroom.

My Project

I moved to a new school this year and I do not have an ELMO viewer in my classroom. I wrote a grant for an LCD Projector and received that from Donor's Choose (THANK YOU!), and I use the LCD projector everyday. But I see moments each day where having an ELMO would make my lessons even more visual and complete. The ELMO is wonderful not only in science class to show an experiment up close, but also all other subject areas. In Social Studies, I have great picture books that show Native Americans in Delaware. With the ELMO, I could show the picture to everyone at once. In Language Arts the ELMO can be used to show samples of students writing. In Math, the students can show the class how to do a multiplication problem with out the stress of putting it up on the board. Using an ELMO allows the learning in the class to be quick and effortless, and the lessons learned are invaluable. I know that I would use this wonderful form of technology in my classroom everyday.

The ELMO projector is a wonderful teaching tool.

It helps to capture those "Right There" or "Bam" teaching moments. The ELMO also saves money in a classroom. I will not have to run transparencies or make copies of those beautiful pictures, stories or worksheets. The students can see it all easily from the comfort of their own seat. The ELMO would be invaluable to have in my classroom. "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words"....with the ELMO this is true in every subject, every day.
