My Students

My classroom is a computer lab/ library at this point. Since I see every student in our school, I now have a better grasp of what my students face each day. I want my students to see that there is a world outside of our town, and provide a foundation to help lift them out of poverty in the future.

Most of my students have a mountain of problems to deal with outside of our classrooms.

Homelessness, poverty, and hunger are commonplace in our school. We have a free and reduced lunch count of 75%. It is difficult for them to focus and reach their fullest potential with all of these distractions. Despite these obstacles, my students are incredible thinkers and explorers. Our school has worked hard to create an environment where every student can succeed. We want to continue this work by creating a place for students to go to develop the skills needed to be successful in their future careers. We want to build a makerspace, which is best described as: "A place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials." - Renovatedlearning.com

My Project

My students need lego baseplates for a lego wall and legos to create, tinker, and explore with in our future careers makerspace. Currently, our makerspace is an empty classroom with piles of discarded materials, but soon we hope to transform it into the ultimate hands-on learning experience for our children. Our mission is to create a makerspace where students can build the foundation for skills that they will use in the workforce. With this makerspace we will be able to transform their mentality not only when designing & creating, but in life. In this lab students will fail and they will succeed. Our goal is to make sure that students are constantly working to improve. We want them to realize that design, like life, is a process and it takes hard work and courage to have success. Our school could be developing the next great inventor, coder, builder, or architect and it is our job to help each of our students reach their fullest potential.

With your help, our Lego wall will be the centerpiece of our makerspace.

Students will have guided and unguided tasks, where their creativity and problem solving skills will be sharpened. The opportunity to directly change 400+ students' lives is here! Thank you for your time!
