My Students
I have quite a differentiated group from well below grade level through students who are working hard and want to be challenged with the next grade level standards. My class this is year has about four students well below where they need to be. These students are in need of spelling out words still and putting sounds to letters. I have four more students who are just about at the beginning of first grade level, four students at the current grade level and four who are ready to be challenged with second grade standards.
I know that if I had more technology in my classroom, each student could demonstrate their fullest potential at their pace and be more confident in whole group lessons.
In this area, there are parents who have not even graduated high school and cannot assist their students in academics; it is left all to the teacher. I want to ensure if I am not working with a small group, each student is engaged in rigorous activities that are fun and at the capability of the student. Teaching is all about the future.
My Project
My students work hard on iStation, a computer program, but I have seen some students as successful within this computer program. We have Kindles for the students to work on; yet, they are not successful. I have worked with OSMO in another school district and saw the results and how successful the lowest students were. It not only brought them results with reading and math but most importantly, with their confidence for success. I feel this hinders my students. It also provides another use of technology for my students in a technology world. As a Title One school, we have lost funding due to Irma, and are slowly trying to recover both as the school and in their personal lives. When students come to school, it is to ensure success for a future with first grade helping to build this foundation. This technology is crucial to help build a firm foundation for our future doctors, lawyers, mechanics and teachers.
