This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what middle school was like? It can be a difficult time as there are many changes happening in your life. For seventh and eighth grade, high school and college are becoming an ever more present reality. Students are forming their own identities as they decide who they want to be, or don't want to be. There is so much happening around them and they get to really start participating in the world.

In my science classroom, I teach students to practice inquiry in every aspect of their lives--science is an integral part of modern life, and students have a natural curiosity about the world that they channel into their learning.

My students are fun, are caring, don't hesitate to question, and want to learn. Science is the perfect class to bring together real-life and content as students use their valuable life experiences to propel their learning.

My Project

Teaching time matters and the best way to use every minute is to be prepared. However, that is hard to do when the whiteboards in my new room are in bad shape.

The room I am moving to has old, non-magnetic, barely cleanable whiteboards.

With these new whiteboards, I will not have to rely on harsh chemicals to simply erase the board. Not only is that not healthy, but it is also frustrating to the students and me when we can't use our tools the way we should. This will save time and allow me to make my lessons more engaging as I can post materials and announcements for students frequently and use the space as an organizational tool in the room.

As a teacher, I come to class every day prepared to teach my students, and I should not have to worry about whether or not the whiteboard will disrupt my lesson and their learning. My students deserve to have working materials in the room-- please help us get them.
