My students need books and films that help them go beyond their textbooks and dig deeply into the history of WW2.

My Students
My US History students are geeked about pushing their historical knowledge towards success in Advanced Placement US History.
My students are a group of developing readers from a small sub-rural high school in Michigan.
They want to explore history in a truly authentic way, and with their new-found love of authentic literacy, they understand that this kind of exploration is possible beyond the textbook!
My Project
These books and films will help support my students as they move beyond the traditional course textbook end-of-the-chapter questions and into the authentic work of real historians.
My student historians will choose among these these texts and others as part of our World War II book club. They'll also have the opportunity to watch the films during our after-school "Movie Nights," where we dig deeper into the stories of the past, especially those we just don't have time to explore during the school day. These movie afternoons are a time for students to build community and connect over history content.
As high poverty students, my students know that generally would not have access to such a plethora of authentic history resources on their own.
These items will also help narrow the distance to college by scaffolding students' literacy skills towards long-term academic success.
