Urgent! Students Are Begging for This Science Lesson!

My students need 2 Owl Pellet Classroom Kits.

Owl Pellets....what are they anyway? Well, an owl pellet (for those of you who don't know) is owl vomit. They contain the bones, fur, and/or feathers of animals that the owl had for its meal. I know...it's a disgusting request, but my 4th graders have repeatedly asked for this lesson! My kiddos have worked so hard in science this year (I'm so proud of them!), so they really have earned this neat and memorable activity. It's such an educational activity; there's no better way to teach about food webs and food chains. They won't forget this lesson! You can help inspire a budding scientist in my classroom!

You see, my class last year had the opportunity to dissect owl pellets. It was a huge success! Apparently, word travels fast because all of my students this year have asked (some have begged) if they would have this lesson as well. However, there simply isn't money in our school budget for this request. I was able to provide last year's lesson only because of DonorsChoose. Each year our school "scrapes by" purchasing only the necessities to operate: copy paper, office supplies, classroom supplies, copy machine fees, etc. There is no room for "luxuries" like owl pellets.

Lakeshore Learning has owl pellets that are specifically cleaned and treated so that younger students can investigate the pellets safely. I would need two kits so that all my students would have a pellet to dissect, examine, and write about. You won't be disappointed--this is a worthwhile project!

Please know that I have written a Donors Choose proposal for this project earlier this year, but it expired before it could be funded. This is my last ditch effort to obtain the supplies so that I can provide this lesson for this group of kids before the school year ends. Remember, they have repeatedly asked for this--it's not very often that my students request a particular lesson. I think we owe them this request...don't you? Your help in this project will be documented with pictures, and you will see for yourself the difference you made. Thanks for your consideration.
