Urban Garden for Urban High School

Help me give my students an urban garden for them to get their hands dirty, learn how to harvest, and watch it grow!

My Students

My students are mostly coming from at-risk homes of low poverty, having a grandparent or other relative care for them, and some of them are parents themselves. They all want an education just as much as a child that does not face such adversity, and they crave the same educational experiences as any other teenager.

We strive to provide experiences for our students to prepare them for their futures.

We give them the opportunities to visit colleges, technical schools, have speakers from all over the community come in to meet them. We give them sports, community outreach programs, events and more to help them achieve the ultimate educational experience.

My Project

These materials will help us begin to start our urban garden. The planters will be for a base for us to start with, so we can build more out of wood for our patio. The soil and seeds will help us start to learn what seeds will sprout best within certain environments. The gardening tools will help our students become familiar with the tools needed to make our vegetables, plants, and fruits come to life.

Gardening is a sustainability effort on both the future and present.

El Dorado students are making strides towards sustainability already. Most of our new school is solar-powered, our trash compacted and our study body remains conscious to make better efforts to secure our Earth for a better and cleaner future.
